cheeky bed bugs - marilips: knowing the quality of ruff and raw housey sounds that both fabio monesi and dj octopus are prone to in their tracks, cheeky bed bugs is a collaboration that we have craved for and it comes in a gritty and dancefloor oriented form. starting off as a warm and funky piece, marilips soon goes into a puncher with a moving bassline and a reverbed claps while the main sequence taints it with an ominous feel. the whole track is enveloped in an almost burned texture giving it pretty live sound that will heat your feet in the club. nothing short of a cheeky feel!

the first track, moaning, has a linear feeling at the beginning: a layer of bass lines makes your feet move instantly until some subtle piano sounds come in at the perfect moment. it creates an atmospheric vibe and when the bass kicks in again, everything seems to fall into place. cosmjn�s interpretation is, as expected, more serious and it has a no-nonsense approach: stripped of the melodic piano sounds, a strong bass line takes over, which makes for an interesting contrast to the original track.
if moaning was a more gentle track, fr sa su is a little bit different: dance floor oriented, the rhythm is certainly higher and it has some intriguing background sounds that go hand in hand with the powerful bass that grows on you from the start of the track. the florian meffert remix closes this ep and it goes out on a strong note: it is a complex track with very different elements and sounds that complement each other just right to get things going.

the album a little comedy, a little drama by dusty baron is the result of collaboration of moldavian fellows eugen kara, ivan slivka and dima scripnic. this collaboration has been lasting in the course of 2016, with miscellaneous recordings at home studios, including moldavian radio and television studio. inspired by french and italian psychedelic electronic music of 60s and 70s, cartoons and the comedian genre of absurd, the trio tried to incarnate their vision of the space into a lp comprising 13 tracks. vintage synthesiser lines and classic drum machines create a hugely entertaining blend intoxicated with universal love. now and then you trace the combinations of techno rhythms rushing into the futuristic vertical, and sometimes the sound transforms into a blend of absolute and exotically influenced reverie.

creme organization s jericho one label continues to set a fine agenda with its fifth ep, this time from dj plant texture aka dona basile, who also releases as dona and given. this is only his second ep under this alias, and is one that again marries breakbeats, techno and electro into electrifying new forms. things kick off with maybe sometimes , three minutes of brutal old school rave. maybe sometimes (2_3 psymono mix) is then a heavily filtered and stripped back version of the same tune that is brilliantly weird and otherworldly. lello from sda then picks up the pace once more with reversed stabs, slamming drums and rubbery bass all cut up with yelping vocals and dusty breaks that take you right back to the early 90s. on the flip, gargantuans is on a deeper and more trippy old school flex with bright pads and gurgling bass taking you higher, then cyclone (tribute to the 90 s) is just that with its frenzied drums, filters and euphoric breakdowns all run through with street fighter samples. d_one then ends the trip with a bit of ambient electronics, with odd sine waves and sharp sound designs placing you in an unhinged world.

barcelona based yakazi imprint proudly reaches its fifth installment in the form of a synergic collaborative release signed by chilean artists alexi delano and marcelo rosselot, counting also with canadian buchla wizard marc houle in the role of never-failing remixer. presented as a two sided release, and splitted in two original tracks plus marc houles remix, yakazi maintains its unwavering commitment to their core values, to move people through good music, prevailing fads and trends and strengthening the labels very own sonic identity. on this occasion, alexi delano, a close relative to the label that was also featured on label�s previous compilation, joins forces with his studio fellow marcelo rosselot building up �take me / it�s on me-, two finely-crafted excursions of heavy bass minimalism and dark vivacious techno based on subtle vocal samples, trippy synth-chords, and layered drum patterns constantly evolving throughout both progressions sounding uniformly fantastic, without falling into the obviousness of a long steady beat narrative and keeping in mind how to charm the dancefloor in style.

the always trustworthy sound carrier label steps back into the limelight to hit us with another fix of quality techno from monsieur chris carrier. the parisian producer never stops making music, and he presents three new extra terrestrial cuts here on this latest instalment from his excellent label. the story here is about two powerful intergalactic beings who discover that they have been lied to by their leaders - there are no magic mushrooms, just a forest of poisoned ones. they have laid down their arms to discuss this despicable turn of events� track one is a rolling slice of analogue techno with acid licks and squelches bubbling away at its core. named �cat�s eye nebula� it sucks us in to an interplanetary vortex, with cosmic fx transporting to the interior of a spaceship, while the beats give the feeling of a bumpy ride into the cosmos. this is followed by the more composed solemnity of �galactus�. shuffling beats slide over a funky bassline, the outer space theme continues with carrier implementing a series of manipulated sounds which convey the feeling of futuristic machinery, blinking dashboards or robots communicating with one another. finally, we have �dark poison�, the inspiration behind the whole ep. more deep 303 vibes on this with a simmering analogue riff, percussion which increases in intensity alongside several layers of melodramatic effects, high-pitched twinkles and chimes which really add to the tension

nice price deal !!! airhead continues to impress and confound with his run of releases on r&s. his last release >wait/south congress< found itself gaining praise right across the board. it showcased his atmospheric guitar styles as well as his deft programming skills, resulting in some trying to pigeon-hole his sound in a post rock/electronica direction. this ep proves it not that easy to pin him down with two new tracks of fresh club music. pyramid lake again showcases his expert manipulation of samples, but this time weaves them into a drunken dance groove, full of whirring percussion and heavy bass. black ink is a bubbling, percussive roller that in the hands of a lesser producer would sound like a traincrash. it bounces along almost out of control and sucks you into its charms until it hits you with some uplifting, haunted chords, at which point it is impossible to resist.
